About Glass

Fusing glass:

Sheets of glass, stringers, frit, glass powders, copper leaf, gold leaf, and micas, are cut and pieced together in 2 to 4 layers. The assembled glass is melted up to 1500 degrees, forming one solid piece. It is slowly cooled to room temperature. Depending on the size and thickness of the glass, this process can take days to heat and cool.

Slumping glass:

The fused piece is then refired into a mold that creates its final shape. The functional art piece bowls and platters are safe to use with food, however, I recommend that you hand-wash your art, and don't use it in a microwave or oven.

Dichroic glass:

Originally developed for the U.S. space program, dichroic glass has an unusual property of reflecting one color while it transmits another. This means the different colors can be viewed by examining the glass at different angles.

This unique glass is manufactured by spraying a thin chemical film on the glass. This must be done in a controlled environment in a vacuum chamber, making dichroic glass one of the most expensive glasses made.
